Really! March through now has been a whirlwind to say the least...but, to sum it up in 3 topics or less: I FINALLY got a job, and it's doing something I actually like and studied in school, I dyed my hair blonde and as recently as last week lopped it all off, and lastly, this is the first August in 18 years that I'm not going back to school. Stranger things have happened though, I suppose.

But now that The Dog Days of summer are upon us...I am craving fall weather, mostly because I am sick of all of my summer clothes...a girl can only wear the same dress to work so many times! And so...with that, comes my 2nd annual fall mood board (or boards) enjoy!!

As promised, a springtime post!

Meet Agnes, my lovely dress form from my roommates (aka mom & dad) for my 23rd birthday. I'm working on a dress for spring at the moment, and please know that I do in fact have better taste than fabric with a vegetable print on it; it's strictly for draping purposes only! The skirt has got box pleats, and there's a dart on the bodice, and I want to put an exposed zipper in the back. I'm thinking the dress does need to be in a print, or perhaps a thin denim chambray? What do you all think?

I saw Inglourious Basterds last Monday (which, by the way, all of you should see immediately. I mean it). Aside from what you have come to expect from gore-happy Quentin Tarantino, the film played beautiful homage to women in the 1940s.

Almost immediately, one actress stood out. Not only was her acting superb, but she was simply stunning. After the film, I did some detective work and found out she was French actress Melanie Laurent, and lucky for me, she has a pretty substantial thread on The Fashion Spot. Like another one of my favorite French actresses Clémence Poésy, Melanie always looks slightly ruffled at the feathers, never over the top, but always in style.

So I've been whining (mostly just to myself, or to anyone who cares to listen) that I'm bored, bored, BORED with my wardrobe. While I hardly have room to complain, as I'm more than fortunate to have a closet full of lovely clothes, it's becoming a situation of "water, water, everywhere, and not a drop to drink."

So what's a girl to do who has $30 in her debit account? Shop mom's closet, of course! And when that fails...climb the creepy stairs to the attic. Which is exactly what I just did instead of packing for school like I promised my mother. An lo and behold, I struck gold. Not only did I find an entire duffel full of treasures, the stuff I found was spot on trend right now: denim shirts, anyone? What once was tacky is now in vogue (what else is new) and if they were in the attic, it's fair game in my opinion. My finds:

Who hasn't said that line, without the slightest hint of irony? (Because when I say it, I actually mean it) John Hughes' 1986 classic Ferris Bueller's Day Off embodies what we'd all do in a heartbeat: play hookie with our best friends. Not to mention the film is ripe with quotes that you'll insist on rattling off all the time; "This is ridiculous, ok I'll go, I'll go, I'll go, I'll go, I'll go. What - I'LL GO.", and "Bueller...Bueller...Bueller?" are personal favorites.

Of course, where would the movie be without our dear Sloane? We've got Matthew Broderick in his prime, and Alan Ruck being adorably forlorn, but Sloane, in her fringed leather jacket, high-waisted shorts, and ray bans kind of carries the film. It doesn't hurt that Mia Sara is quite beautiful, and captures 80s youth perfectly.

So go raid your mom's closet, grab your most delightfully neurotic friend, and a red 1961 Ferrari 250GT California, and take it easy.

Downtown, everything's waiting for you...

So maybe Petula Clark's song is a bit dated (although still good for a guilty pleasure sing-along), but Chick Downtown is most decidedly not. The online retailer is every fashion-forward girl's dream, with clothing and accessories from a glorious range of designers. Every season, designers begin brainstorming their upcoming collection with one phrase: "What inspires me?" Everyone's taste is different, and inspiration can vary from the very literal all the way to the abstract. Often, a photo, a memory, or an ideal can pave the way for an entire line of clothing or accessories. The thought that something small, such as the smell of a summer evening you remember as a child, can launch a collection of clothing is both fascinating and beautiful to me.

Accessories designer Gina Nigrelli, creator of Jules Smith is inspired by both the literal and the abstract. Her jewelry designs, both modern and vintage, stem from her love of bygone decades. Sorry I've been absent! Have been in New York since the end of May, interning with Vogue magazine! As you can imagine, life is quite hectic and crazy, and weeks seem to fly by, and I haven't been able to take as many photos of the city as I would like. But, I've been able to sneak a few in here and there.

I've always really enjoyed photography, and have always been envious of those who could capture moments in life as they happen; a "candid camera" photographer of sorts. I just don't think I'm that good of a photographer to merit owning a really nice camera. Even still, here's my attempt at capturing moments.

Willy Wonka had the right idea: colors brighten our lives (and our wardrobes). Though it is kind of late in the game as far as spring and designers are concerned, since Fall '09 has already been shown, I guess I only just noticed that every color under the rainbow was used for Spring 09. Among all the crazy prints and silhouettes, you can always count on a lovely solid in a lovely color to brighten your wardrobe. A sampling:

I just turned in a creative draping project for my Design III studio class. We could only use perfect circles, perfect squares or equilateral triangles to construct our garment. I decided ultimately on perfect circles, because the drape was so pretty! The straps are circles that have been folded into pie shapes, and there's some pleating at the bust line. 8 hours+some frustrating hemming=

It's a little revealing on the sides, so leggings or tights may be in order. But I'm excited to wear it!

California Dreamin'

Winter blues, be gone! Spring is somewhat around the corner, and that means time to start daydreaming about warm-weather plans and picnics with french bread and sparkling water. It's also a time for easy, carefree pieces that are still feminine and playful. A label to jump-start your spring fever? James Perse is a wonderful place to start.

The clothes I picked are all in lovely neutral shades. I think sometimes women over think, or perhaps overlook simplicity, and don't add it into their wardrobe for fear of being "boring." You can always dress around a neutral, but it's a little trickier working around a busy pattern. These clothes don't wear you; the lines are clean, and the fit is loose.

The Cube

No, that's not the name of the latest horror movie. (Wouldn't that be a great title for one, though?) It is, however, the name of just one of many revamped sections of the discount retailer, Marshalls. Back in October, I did a piece on their newly revised show section of the store. This time around, I was asked to cover The Cube, a part of the store geared towards the young adult crowd. When I went to Marshalls last week, I was really amazed at the number of brands that The Cube had to offer, all at really unbelievable prices. There were jeans by Seven for All Mankind, Level 99, and Levis. Skirts and shorts by Kenneth Cole Reaction, Express Design Studio, and The Limited. And of course, department store staple brands, such as Rampage and Jordache. The selection was huge, and I always have loved the thrill of the hunt.

End the end, I got 5 pieces, for a grand total of $51.46. Not bad, considering that'll get you about one leg of designer jeans. Read on for my purchases, and what I'm pairing them with!

The Jeans

These acid wash jeans are by Jordache, and were only $16.99. Even though acid wash jeans are a trend most feel should be left in the 80s, they can be modernized-chicly!- with simple flats and a solid top. Mine are skinny leg, which keeps it current. I wore them with black Tory Burch flats, a cream Ella Moss tunic and a black knit sweater, complete with cornflower-blue pashmina turned scarf.

The Skirt

This skirt, by the Express Design Studio, was only $3.00. Yes, $3.00. It's cream colored, with an off-white speckle print. It reminds me very much of J.Crew, which is fine by me. I feel like this will be great once warmer weather hits with flats, but for now, wearing it with tights is working out well. I'm wearing the cream top from above, and tucked it loosely into the skirt, and am wearing Stuart Weitzman heels (that were on sale!).

The White Shorts

These white shorts, by Rampage, were also only $3.00. (My luck continues!) They have a bit of stretch to them, and are wide enough that they're not skin tight. Plus, they're cuffed, which I think adds extra polish. Once again, I'm wearing my faithful Ella Moss shirt, plus a grey and cream vest from Urban Outfitters. And though you can't see my feet, I'm wearing strappy flats.

The Seersucker Shorts

These shorts, at a more than reasonable price of $5.00, are also great because they're mid-thigh, and loose fitting. The seersucker fabric makes it a great spring to summer choice. I thought I'd mix patterns and add a J.Crew plaid shirt, which has a simlar color scheme. I'm wearing great, sculpted heels by Nine West.

The Blue Maxi Dress
Finally, the blue maxi dress was about $22.00. The maxi dress trend will definitely carry over into this summer, and in a great deep blue, it's universally flattering. It would go great with flat gladiators or strappy flats.

And second things second: I am on the hunt for the perfect leather jacket, and so far have not succeeded. I'm so picky: It can't be too short, nothing too trendy, nothing pleather...you get the idea. I'm in the market for either a black one or perhaps a tobacco/camel colored one. Any ideas where to purchase????

I finally spent the last of my Christmas money and stumbled upon this gorgeous See by Chloé skirt. Forgive that argyle mess of a sweater in the photo; not what I'd wear it with at least. It's got a really cool exposed metal zipper in the back, pockets in the front. And, it was definitely almost $300 and I got it on sale for $112. I'm wearing it with tights now, but I'm thinking it will carry over into spring, easy peasy.

Sorry I've been so out of commission....I was given the lovely Christmas gift of mono the very day I got home for break. Typical. However, I have dragged myself out of my sick bed and am trying to get back to a decent posting schedule--one of my 2009 goals! What better way to start than with a beauty post?

The Look:

I just think she looks so fresh here; her tan isn't orange at least. And I'm obsessed with the pale pink 60s lip. It reminds me of the look at Miu Miu S/S 2006 RTW collection, and, more recently, the lip-look at Proenza Schouler's S/S 2007 RTW collection

The Interpretation:
no snickering!

So, I'm not as tan as Lindsay up there, and no bronzer can get me that dark, but I feel that if you're fair-skinned, caking on the bronzer just looks bad. Even so, a little can go a long way.

The Products:
Aside from my usual liquid foundation-moisturizer mixture, I used:

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
M.A.C. eyeshadow in "Mythology"
Hard Candy Eye Shadow Quartet in "Disco 2000"
CARGO Pencil Eyeliner in "82 Black"
Givenchy "Phenomen' Black" mascara
NARS velvet matte lip pencil in "Roman Holiday"
BeneFit Eye Bright eye pencil

The Procedure:
What I love about this look is that it's easy; it took me roughly ten minutes!
After applying my foundation and fixing my brows, I put on the primer potion. If you haven't bought this already, go do so IMMEDIATELY. I'm on my 5th tube of it now. Your eye shadow will literally stay on all day, no creasing, no wearing off. Amazing. Next, I applied my M.A.C. shadow all over my upper lid, and used a generous amount on my lower lid. Using the shimmery yellow shade from the Hard Candy Quartet, I blended it with Mythology on both lids. Next, I applied a thin line of the black eyeliner, making the line thicker on the outer lids. Do this for both top and bottom lids, and also get the water line on the lower lid. After applying a few coats of the Givenchy mascara, the eyes are DONE. For the cheeks, apply the bronzer to the hollows of your cheek bones, and blend up to your temples. I added a bit to the bridge of my nose and forehead, as well. Finally, for the lips, I put Roman Holiday all over, and, over top, applied BeneFit's Eye Bright to get that perfect pale pink. Yes, it's an eye pencil, but I believe in multiple uses for makeup! Optional: Add highlighter to your brow bone, temples, and jaw line. I love BeneFit's High Beam.

Site Makeover!

For whatever reason, I got the urge to completely re-vamp my site today, and though it's still a work in progress, I'm liking what I'm seeing. Also--and perhaps I'm one of the last to jump on the bandwagon--but if you haven't ever visited The Cherry Blossom Girl I suggest you do so immediately. Her blog is incredible and inspirational to say the least, and I hope that one day my site can be up to such calibre.

Anyways, hope you're all getting ready for Thanksgiving Break, because if you're anything like me, I was ready for a holiday a month ago. Bring on the turkey!

Fall/Winter Shoes

Winter is nearly upon us, which means it's time to eschew with a firm hand your open-toed sandals and go for the warmth of oxfords, booties, et cetera. I was given the opportunity to go my local Marshalls and pick out my top shoe for fall.

For those of you readers not from the US, Marshalls is where department stores send their excess designer clothes, shoes, and accessories, and in turn are sold for a fraction of the price. It's always great quality, and new shipments arrive all the time. Recently, Marshalls decided to implement the Shoe Megashop. Now, even more designer shoes for every occasion are available in their stores. Visit the site here.

I went to Marshalls over the weekend for my shoe shopping excursion. I didn't have a particular shoe style in mind when I went; rather, I went with the hope that a particular shoe would speak to me. You know what I mean. Well, imagine my glee when I saw rows and rows of shoes, all organized by occasion. The hot fall picks were right up front, with brands ranging from Jessica Simpson to Steve Madden.There were lace-up oxfords, equestrian-style flat boots, ankle boots, everything! The aisles were easy to navigate and were kept neat and organized, which is key when shopping a rack. After much debating, I finally decided on black suede zip-up ankle boots from Nine West. I snagged them for a cool $49.99, rather than the original price of about $80.

I couldn't wait to try them with different outfits, so below for your viewing pleasure is yours truly posing. Forgive me, but my face isn't in either, since I wasn't looking too swell this morning. In the first picture, my shirt is by Keep Calm and Carry On, based out of the U.K., and my jeans are BDG from Urban Outfitters. In the second picture, my top is Anna Sui for Anthropologie, City Shorts by AG, and Nordstrom junior's tights.

Current obsessions of the non-apparel (well, for the most part) variety include ReForm School for everything from posters to beauty products, and Married To The Sea: "The Champagne of Comics" for my daily dose of funny.

I'm sure many of you are more than acquainted with online shopping. There's just something kind of amazing (in the simplest of ways of course) about shopping for shoes in your jammies. This said, it's hard to find good sites that have more than one brand of apparel, shoes, accessories, et cetera. It's even harder to find sites that have all of these items discounted. Of course, there are the online sample sales of the world, Gilt Groupe and Haute Look to name two. (And I must add, they are quite fantastic.) But, they're not personalized to you. Yes, they alert you when things are going on sale, but who knows if it's in your size or even if you care about the designer that's featured?

Fall 2008 Trends & Tips

It's that time of year.....school is just around the corner (or tomorrow, for those lucky few such as myself) and that means that fall isn't too far off, either. I love every season, of course, but I get bored with dressing a certain way for an extended period of time. I can't wait for the layering, leggings and scarves that fall brings, and, in addition, the trends that come with. A rundown of ones that caught my eye:

Saturated Color

It seemed designers were in the mood for a horse of a different color this season, specifically, rich berry hues in the tune of raspberries, plums, and cherries.

Modern Bohemian

It looks as though Boho is here to stay, which really should come as no surprise. Who doesn't enjoy scooting around in easy, relaxed pieces, bright florals, and lots of layers? Of course, for a trend to have longevity, it must be constantly in a state of re-invention. This is not the Boho for 2003, nor is it from last year. It is utterly now.

English Countryside

Even if you don't know the Queen and will never be invited over for high tea, it doesn't mean you can't dress the part. Unexpected and modern touches keep it current.

So my stay here in the city is drawing to a close, and, truth be told, I'm suffering from the age old dilemma, "a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear." I thought I had dragged my entire closet from home up here, but apparently not. Becoming increasing desperate has in turn forced me to be creative with my clothes. Point being, wearing old clothes in new ways. With that in mind, here are some outfit inspiration photos and ideas for those of you in a bind, or if you're simply bored to tears with your armoire.

While I'm sure I'm not the only one who has eschewed the jumpsuit, this girl proves that is can be done. Wearing it loose, long, and elegantly is key. Cotton makes is casual, the color makes it fun.

I just love the worn in denim shorts with with the color-block singlet. I'm really into geometric, boxy prints at the moment, and this shirt manages to get the look just right, without going overboard.

This young Parisian boy may be the coolest kid on the planet. We can all take a leaf out of his book and throw on black skinnys, a loose top, and bright shoes. Attitude sold separately.

Lastly, any one who frequents this blog (thank you!!) knows I have an obsession with Clemence Poesy. As always, style-wise, she doesn't fail to disappoint here. I always find that I gravitate towards loose, slouchy tops at least 2 sizes too big, because I just love the casual elegance of loose, breezy layers. Of course, it's easy to drown in these things, so always try it on!

I first saw a dress by Jesse in an older issue of TeenVogue, and recently stumbled across her website. Her collection was launched for Spring '06, and people immediately fell in love with her quirky textile prints and intricate detailing. What's especially endearing is that this is still a one woman show. Jesse works out of her L.A. studio, and keeps the staff number low, and the quality high.

Fool-proof outfit (aka, my current obsession)

Recently, I have been craving a chic, simple outfit, that doesn't scream "old lady" or, perhaps even worse, "trying too hard." Well, epiphany hit, and although this seems like a no-brainer, I swear it didn't occur to me how simple and chic--not to mention easy--this outfit really is. And the best part? I guarantee all of you have these sitting in your closet right now.

What you'll need:
-Simple knit tank, in a sheer white.
-Black pencil skirt, knee length, either high-waisted, or jack it on up.
-One of mom's old belts that magically fit her when she was your age, but now that we wear our pants down to our asses...well, you know the rest.

Seriously, all you do is tuck that tank top into the skirt, and if it's not high waisted, pull it up to right past your belly button, and belt it where the waistband is. Add heels, and some intricate gold jewelry, and you'll look so chic, you won't believe it. Honestly, it's unexpected gold.

It's the most wonderful time of the year--Fashion Week!

So the buzz is that thus far, fashion week has been kind of a disappointment, like the designers are throwing in the bucket. All this aside, I've seen some things that I do like...so with that in mind, here's what we'll (maybe) (possibly) wear this fall:

Tory Burch, Fall 2008 RTW

They may not be for everyone, but I'm kind of becoming a fan of shoes that are both delicate and tough, like the ones on this model. The thick straps are just so cool to me, but they're dressy at the same time. I know this is kind of like a quasi-boot, and slightly ridiculous, but it's fashion week, and I can wear whatever I damn well please. And the outfit's not bad, either. Lovely sunny color for the skirt.

Maybe it's because I spent 5 months living in Australia, and vicariously living in New Zealand, too, but Kiwi Karen Walker is a delight. I love this throwback to the seventies print, with the thick, wooly tights. I can't decide if I like the Peter Pan collar, but I think the outfit as a whole is working on me.

So, I've never really cared about Rachel Bilson before. I never really got into The O.C., and while I was slightly jealous that she was dating Adam Brody-what? I have been watching this pin-striped overall dress for literally MONTHS now, but at $ 220.00, they weren't exactly cheap. Last week I spotted them on sale for $149.00 Better, but not good enough.

FINALLY, I saw them at David Jones department store, and they were $129.00, and I didn't think they'd go down anymore, so I bought 'em...oh man. I cannot WAIT to wear them once I'm home, since it's lovely summertime back in Charlotte, North Carolina.. tell me what you think!!

The Next Big Thing in denim?

So, maybe I've been living under a rock, but I've only just discovered Swedish denim brand, Cheap Monday, and let me tell you...the only thing cheap is the price! Starting at just $90 (considering my favorite pair of Citizens cost me $156) these are a STEAL.

While denim is the focus, they also make tees with their logo smiling skull, and those run at about $25.

Sorry for the lack of posting...Melbourne has been CRAZY!
However. My time here thus far has been well spent, because I have been keeping a watchful eye on the super stylish girls of Melbourne! Some things I've noticed:

1) Overalls, overalls, overalls! Especially cut- offs. Who knew what we wore as kids could be so cool? Paired with a flouncy top underneath and flats, it's really chic.
2) Skinny jeans with big, oversized t-shirts, especially graphic or vintage. Australian jean brands Tsubi (now called "Ksubi") and Sass & Bide are huge here.
3) menswear style shoes, such as oxford lace-ups, are worn with EVERYTHING.

It's really inspiring..trust me, I've become somewhat adventurous when it comes to clothes since I got here. It's all about mixing it up and not caring. No worries!

Haute Couture Week!!

I've been so busy, I didn't realize that Couture Week was happening right under my nose!! After getting the appropriate rundown from Elle.com, I've picked my favorite looks:

Although at first glance, she might look like a three-tiered wedding cake, I really like this! The layers here really show off Saab's skills as a designer- if she wasn't careful the model would have looked squat, but she looks incredibly tube-like, and elongated. It doesn't hurt to be 5'9" either, but that's beside the point.

Never one to dissapoint, The House of Dior has created yet a another show-stopping couture season. Paying homage to Dior's iconic "New Look" of 1947 which put the designer on the map, the silhouette is nipped in the waist, creating a flattering hourglass shape. To add to the glamour, and to make a fresh statment, the clothes have been infused with an obvious eastern influence, with bright colors and cherry blossoms adorning the models' garb.

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I for one can't believe it's already 2007...where has the time gone? Haha I sound way old. Anyways, I was trying to find something good to post, and it came to me that a lot of you (myself included) are aspiring fashion designers, but maybe don't know where to begin, or even what resources to look into to get started. I thought it would be great to give you all some books that have been invaluable to me. This is what I WISH I'd known earlier, so you all can thank me later!!

For the very basics of fashion drawing, no book has been better or mopre helpful than 9 Heads, 3rd Edition, by Nancy Riegelman. Not only does it tell you step by step how to draw the fashion figure, but it gives amazing insight on how to draw and represent fabrics, textures, and everything in-between, not just for women, but men and children as well. It also gives great examples and instructions on how to draw technical fltas, which are the 2D designs of the garment that show seams and stitching, and are imperative that a designer know how to do well. Normally around $80, I got it for a bargain price of $30 on Amazon.com

I'm sure you all know the importance of costume history- every major designer does, too. Not only do designers look to the past for inspiration on almost every collection, it's important to know where clothes came from- and how amazing they really are! Fashion: A History from the 18th to the 20th Century, by Taschen, is a 2 book set, full of gorgeous, full color photographs of clothing from the Kyoto Costume Institute. If you're looking through it for reference only, or just want to be inspired, it's a must have.

If you're a design student, you will eventually have to complie a portfolio of your work, and present it in a manner that's not only professional, but also shows of your own unique style, and leaves a mark on whom ever you show it to. Mine is an 11"x14" with a zipper and handle. This size is perfect for carrying around and isn't bulky. A co-worker of mine told me about Portfolio Design 2nd Edition, by Harold Linton, which is a book which explains every possible way to represent a portfolio. It's great to read early on, so when it comes time to make your portfolio, you'll know exactly how to you want to assemble it.

Lastly, what about money???? You may be asking, 'How the hell am I gonna even get started in this business??' It's simple: save, save, save. Be responsible with your money. Know exactly what it will cost to go for your dreams. Don't know where to start? Or perhaps you may not know the first thing about money and credit? ( Know what a FICO score is? You will! ) The Money Book for the Young,Fabulous, & Broke, by Suzy Orman, was not only informantive, but it's written in a way that young people will actually understand, with examples that make sense. You will come away from it with so much more understanding about money, and how to handle it.

Finals suuuuccck.
The only thing keeping me going is that I'm home next Tuesday, Christmas is a mere 2 weeks-ish away, and my 20th birthday is the 31st- God, I'm old. Oh. And holiday parties are always the perfect excuse to dress up in fancy free frivolity (say that 5 times fast).

Some things I'd love to wear to a fun social gathering:

This lovely pink confection by Thakoon would be great with my staple of opaque black tights and open toed party shoes, or, if you went with bare legs and could withstand the cold, pointy toe flats would be very chic, too.

This emsemble, by Trovata, is very different, obviously more casual than a typical party outfit. But, if you're looking to stand out, then this is great. I'm kind on the fence about "formal shorts" but these work here. They're not what my mother would call a "floozy" length here. I really love the proportions of everything...actually..I woulnd't change a thing here- can I just have the whole outfit???

final projects suck

so, for my final project in Apparel Product Design (APD) 244, we had to create our own line with 3 figures on two pages, blah blah blah. Well, after actually sitting down for 3 hours, here's what I came up with. I know the flash makes it seem like there is a halo between all the girls, my fault! I drew these with prismacolor markers (and at $3.75 a pop, they better be good) and, for that "little something extra" gold paint pen. Tell me what you think!♥

Upon bowsing elle.com, I came across a link for a jeans website that, after filling in a few key details about how your jeans fit you now, they would find you the *perfect* pair..or pairs! for you.. well, naturally, I was enticed, and hence where zafu.com comes in.

Seriously, all you have to do is fill out about 10 or so questions, such as, "How do jeans typically fit your waist?" and "from the front, you'd describe your waist as.." and so on. And, you're not stabbing in the dark here, it's mutiple choice! After I answered those easy-peasy questions, I was given around 14 pairs of jeans, all different designers, that would fit me perfectly, according to my results! This certainly takes the stress out of jean shopping for me!

Denim cut-offs with tights? The idea has crossed my brain more than once, I admit, but I'm a llittle too skeptical to try this one out. I had these great Citizen jeans but they were getting a little ratty, so I made them into cutoffs. I thought if I wore those with gray ribbed tights, a long loose black tee, and plaid anglomania-ish blazer, and maybe flats or booties it may be okay. So, I 'll ask you guys- is this fashion statement ever okay? Let me know, loves!

I love the nod to 60s pop-patterns, and the length of this shift is perfect. You could wear this with thick, textured tights and booties, or (and this is why it is so fabulous) you could wear it later, like in the summer or spring, with flats or sandals. Thus, the $288 price tag should be considered an INVESTMENT (are you listening, mom?)

I'm not sure who all have heard of this, BUT:

"Madrid's fashion week has turned away underweight models after protests that girls and young women were trying to copy their rail-thin looks and developing eating disorders.'Fashion is a mirror and many teenagers imitate what they see on the catwalk,' said regional official Concha Guerra.The mayor of Milan, Italy, Letizia Moratti, told an Italian newspaper this week she would seek a similar ban for her city's show unless it could find a solution to "sick" looking models.
The Madrid show is using the body mass index or BMI -- based on weight and height -- to measure models. It has turned away 30 percent of women who took part in the previous event. Medics will be on hand at the September 18-22 show to check models." (CNN.com)

So, this weekend I went back home to Charlotte for the opening of NEIMAN MARCUS...and while the display of thousands of hanging feather butterflies was beyond gorgeous:

...I have to admit-I wasn't exactly bowled over. Dissapointing, I know! Maybe because it was super-crowded, or maybe I was pouty because it would cost me my next years allowance plus my left foot to afford anything in there besides free perfume samples. Me and my sister were perusing, and perusing some more. The cheapest thing we found were these $295 Marc by Marc Jacobs velvet and patent leather ballet flats:

My love of bright, sparkly things continues, this time in the form of a truly adorable headband by jewelry and accessories designer Tarina Tarantino. A thick headband that's hand-wrapped with striped grosgrain ribbon, embellished with velvet flowers and studded with Swarovski crystals is possibly the prettiest thing to put in your hair that I've seen in years. Remember when we all wore bows and headbands in our hair?? When did this stop being cool? Come on girls-bring them back!

You may be somewhat hesitant to wear black on your nails but trust me: if done right, you'll look chic, not like a satan worshiper. Just look at La Lohan:

Just remember to keep nails short and slightly rounded, and use a good quality polish, unless you like looking cheap. I recommend Chanel nail polish in Black Satin ($18 at Nordstroms or Sephora). I bought it the other day and the polish hasn't chipped-don't forget the topcoat!

Sorry for the long hiatus, but I just got back from a loooooong vacation...

So these jeans aren't exactly hot off the press, but I love, love, LOVE this line of Rock & Republic jeans by Victoria Beckham (Pop Royalty and Tabloid Queen over across the pond). Called the "London Crown", I love the detailing on the pocket. They are incredibly flattering, incredibly long, and incredibly expensive: $239 a pop.

I don't know what it is exactly about French filles, but they seem to have such an impeccable sense of style. They could throw on the most missmatched outfit and yet it still looks so incredibly chic, you would think they spent hours standing in front of their closet, pondering what to wear.
Exhibit A:

Clemence Poesy, aka Fleur Delacour from the Harry Potter films, looks amazing here. I love the combination of the frilly dress with the opaque tights and knee high oversize boots. It's so genious.

Exhibit B:

Once again, looking effortlessly beautiful, with minimal makeup and simple hair, and a nude colored dress with just the right amount of embellishments along the neckline. I must admit, she is my current fashion icon. I wish I could make up my mind as to whom to look to for inspiration, but that has proven impossible.

Want to dress like a french girl? Try these tips accumulated by MOI:

* Think QUALITY, not QUANTITY. A French girl would never buy several cheap pieces in bulk; instead she looks for something she knows will last and is well made.
* Look for items that are classic, that will stand the test of time. Don't ignore trends completely, but buy with care- look for something that transcends year, season, etc.
*Don't be afraid to experiemnt with color, pattern, and texture. Some of the best outfits result from being bold.
* Dress in what makes YOU comfortable. If you feel amazing in something, wear it! Confidence shines through any outfit, and if you feel good, then you'll look good.
*Lastly, just have fun with clothes..."lighten up, it's just fashion!"
